I came by this morsel in AT which purports to show that Temu (Ping Duo Duo in China) is essentially a malware exercise on a giant scale.
I'd like to see code examples from the app to have a better idea myself, but the allegation, even if half-true, are distubing.
Here's the original article:
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/06/shopping-app-temu-is-dangerous-malware-spying-on-your-texts-lawsuit-claims/
It it cheap shopping? A giant malware exercise able to scoop up data from millions? or just a piece of commercial code that doesn't take sufficient care with privacy permissions?
Any thoughts, or better still some evidence of malfeasance? Without evidence it is no better than just another conspiracy, as if we need any more.
Here's the ZDnet take on Temu, the merchandise and what's going on:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/is-temu-legit-everything-to-know-before-you-place-your-first-order/
A quick web search turns up plenty of opinion, almost all of it without the necessary evidence.
Is Temu malware in disguise?
