Maybe you sometimes wander outside the Amateur bands, for broadcast listening, or the check in with utilities like WWV, or wonder what the heck is that terrible noise is on a ham band -that is clearly not a ham?
Fortunately Joerg Klingenfuss has the answers! He has for many years compiled authoritative guides which show origins, id, waterfall appearance of "odd" digital modes and lots more. The detail is fascinating. There is a Shortwave Frequency Guide and Supplement which has the world's broadcasters listed in detail, as well as public utilities. The Guide To Utility Radio Stations lists Government, Diplomatic and Military stations. World weather faxes are fun, and whether you get much out of numbers stations, or The Bazzer, The Water Drip... They're fun to find and ponder what they're for.
I've had these guides for many years now, and they just keep getting better. A perfect companion to Fldigi etc.
