Everything to do with computers in ham radio welcome here.
Much may be about Linux, but don't let a little thing like that stop you posting stuff for Win, Mac, Android,.. anyone still using Amiga or 8-bit?

ADIFMaster runs on Linux. Quick howto.

Post by admin »

ADIFMaster is a popular ADIF log checker and utility. So how to run it with Linux?

Let's start with a running Linux distro -most will work jut fine with this, and a standard installation of Wine, the Win compatibility layer.
  • Download ADIFMaster from www.dxzone.com/dx19959/adif-master.html
Open the Downloads directory, and make a new folder (or directory) (right-click) called ADIFMaster.
Find ADIFMasterSetup.zip in the Downloads, and drag it into your ADIFMaster folder.
Open the ADIFMaster folder and right-click ADIFMasterSetup.zip to unzip (extract) it here. There should then be a new file called Setup.exe.
Open the Setup.exe with Wine Windows Program Loader to start installation. Answer yes to accepting the license, and yes to other defaults.
Default installation will place an ADIFMaster icon on the desktop, which can be used to start ADIFMaster.
Some users may like to add ADIFMaster to the apps menu too. The Menu Editor (usually right-click the Menu) will ask for the Command to start ADIFMaster. To save you wondering where the heck the installer put it, here's the Command:

Code: Select all

~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/DXShell/ADIFMaster.exe
Fill the other Menu Editor fields with the app Name and short description. Don't like the icon?? Click it and choose a nicer one. You're done!

Now your Linux Desktop has an ADIFMaster startup icon as well as a menu entry.

Hint: ADIFMaster can do wonderful things with ADIF logs. -You did make a backup, didn't you? Even more can be done with modern spreadsheets like LibreOffice Calc, or if you want to pay money, M$ Office Excel. The field separator in ADIF files is the semicolon ; rather than the more common spreadsheet CSV comma , so be careful to make sure that import - export between the apps expects the same field separator, and the transfer is easy.
