Edwin Armstrong is credited with inventing the regenerative circuit https://historyofinformation.com/detail.php?id=2387 in 1916.
Famous for it's high gain, and depending on design remarkable selectivity.
Here's a great example of a beautiful build, and design with buffered RF.
He also invented the Super-regenerative receiver in 1922, https://earlyradiohistory.us/1922sup.htm for a description and free full article.
Although of considerably greater complexity, it allowed the development of microwave circuits. The ingenious cycling between regeneration, oscillation and quenching is worth a minute or two of study. And he did the whole thing with a minimal component count! Cool dude, IMHO!
