Radio is full of equations that have a squared term in them: "Twinkle twinkle little star. Power equals I2R."
A general form of such a quadratic would be ax2 + bx + c = 0 , and we'd solve it by applying a big formula learned by rote -you do remember it, right?
Fortunately there's an easier way, but nobody ever told me in school that this is a new and easier way to do it:
Much math instruction is so much better than my old schooldays, notably now including matrix concepts and operations. All very good until you actually have to use these things, and we do the mechanicals of calculation same ol' way, even though we can now multiply faster and solve x2 equations easily -but we don't.
Time to get with the times!
Solve a quadratic easily, and without that darned formula.
