Here's how the famous station KPF Maritime Radio at Point Reyes was rescued, and continues on the air:
Now if only something like this had happened to Portishead Radio...
How many other historic radio installations could have been saved, even as a museum. For a start, take a look at Aspidistra:

There's a video at: https://youtu.be/OSYkTi6zKk0?si=UxIenn6-WjnjNQsk
The transmitters have few details remaining beyond: https://military-history.fandom.com/wik ... ansmitter)
I remember the site as a kid, though now it looks kinda sad. This is what remains: https://www.thetimechamber.co.uk/beta/s ... rowborough
There's persistent folklore concerning the high power Aspidistra tubes. They were made to be disassembled for filament replacement on site, and re-vacuumed ready for use. It's a fun idea, and now there are few left to ask... The transmitter was rapidly dismantled after the last broadcast. (Why?) I suspect there was something in the design that someone didn't want to be too famous, but what?
