I was poking around a harmless thread about software congratulation, and stumbled on the news that the award-winning WSJT-X may be at or near it's current end:

The issue appears to be that WSJT-X https://wsjt.sourceforge.io/wsjtx.html is currently made available under the GPL. Good? Yes, but the GPL does permit forked development. One such fork has permitted unattended operation, against the wishes of J Taylor himself. The proposed remedy appears to make future WSJT-X proprietary closed source.

Well? While WSJT-X is very much J Taylor's "baby", the effects of removing future development from the public domain may not all be positive?
