It purports to be an auto-tuning mobile antenna, good for HF to 100W. but just look at the price!

So what's the point of this post? I guess that I had a really good day out with the Dominion DX Group, activating Pocohontas State Park this last weekend. Many people used the fine Wold River coils and vertical antennas, while I had much fun with the versions described here on The Hambone for a fraction of the cost.
Do we actually get what we pay for?
Should old, but maybe good designs be produced indefinitely? -Nothing wrong with Drake, TenTec...?
Should we always choose "home market" products or use the internet to increase the choice?
