Extensive upgrade completed.

The "bricks" from phpBB used to build The Hambone have been upgraded to 3.3.14, and php to 8.1.31 .

Why? To cover a vulnerability or two, and improve robustness and functionality of some older code.

Astonishingly, it all appears to work, but with a few minor wrinkles mostly ironed out now.

To do: The latest free version of gtranslate seems to have taken an instant dislike to the latest php, so the options were:

• Pay Google for the latest version of gtranslate,
  or,
  Exhume an old fossil experimental version of Google Translator

You don't want to pay, do you? So I put the old fossil in instead, at least until our good friend HiFiKabin can figure out a way to get the better free code gtranslate to behave.
It seems that Google has not made it easy, so there may be a bit of a wait until we can go back to a more modern and better translator. Thank you HiFiKabin for all the fine work!

So, The Hambone still self-translates, but temporarily does it with old and tatty code. Just select your language from the dropdown list on the right side of the page header. Bienvenue!
